H&M Design Award: Stine Riis

The tailored futuristic elegance of Stine Riis.
L'eleganza sartoriale e futuristica di Stine Riis.

Don't forget her name, as I am sure we will hear a lot from her. The "her" I am talking about is called Stine Riise and is the danish designer who won the first H&M Design Award. What's this? It's a prize created by the Swedish giant of the fast fashion to sponsor (with the considerable sum of 50.000 Euros) the start-up of an upcomin and promising designer.

The judges of H&M Design Award Member have assisted at graduates shows of fourteen major fashion colleges all around Europe, before choosing the six winners that presented their collection in London to a grand jury. Members of this grand jury were (between the others) Christopher Kane, the fashion journalist Hilary Alexander and Margareta van der Bosch, H&M's creative advisor.  They chose the danish designer Stine Riise, graduated in BA fashion Design Technology from the London College of Fashion in 2011, that could present her graduation collection on the catwalk of Stockholm Fashion Week.

And in my opinion they made a fanatic choice as Stine Riis' collection was one of the best (if not THE best) that I've seen in the entire fashion week. Her debut collection is incredibly mature and modern, tailored and at the same time avant-gardist, ready to be presented in important windows as Colette or 10 Corso Como.
What amazes me the most is the elegance that Stine uses for mixing the futuristic côté of a collection prepared of a graduation show, made of risky combinations of colors and materials, with the clean, timeless allure of the silhouettes of hers outfits.
A modern, contemporary collection with a commercial touch, that will be produced by H&M and sold in stores next fall. Can't wait for it!
